Description |
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Katharine Burnside was a leader in the art community of Parkersburg, West Virginia for over 30 years. She founded the Parkersburg Arts Center in 1938 and established the Studio 7 Co-op Gallery. A tireless supporter and practitioner of art, Burnside influenced many of her colleagues and younger artists who came to know her. She began her career in art in the 1930s as a realist painter focusing on landscape, stil life, and portrait subjects. She later turned to abstraction and became known for her mixed media paintings and collages. |
