Description |
Anne Shreve was born in Charleston, WV in 1926, and attended Morris Harvey College and Mason College of art in Charleston from 1943-1949. She possesses an uncanny ability to paint the ordinariness of objects as if they were extraordinary vehicles of color and light. Seemingly insignificant objects such as kitchen crockery and breakfast fruits are imbued with an aesthetic quality uniquely their own. Shreve's works convey a subtle energy and luminescence which seem to transcend the canvas and cast a warm glow on everything around them, like morning light filtering through an open window, always welcoming and fresh. It is unpretentious art that endures, that gives pleasure with extraordinary constancy. Anne Shreve's visual poetry not only helps us to see the everyday from another perspective, but her sensitive perception and gentle portrayal enable us to quietly celebrate it. |
